Stick-On VELCROⓇ: A Practical Solution for Renters
If you rent your property, then you’re legally bound to keep the condition of your home in line with the clauses in your contract. If you don’t, then there’s a chance you could find yourself not receiving your deposit back at the end of your tenancy.
One of the most common reasons why money may be taken off your deposit is due to avoidable wear and tear to a property as a result of your actions as a tenant – for example, paint peeling off walls due to bluetack being used or holes in walls from the use of nails.
Whilst this can limit the way you personalise your rental property – something which we’re sure you’re eager to do (afterall, it’s the personal touches that make a house a home) – there is an alternative option. What is it? Why, VELCROⓇ, of course!
Uses of VELCROⓇ in the Home
Hanging Decor and Pictures
Whether art pieces or personal pictures, hanging decor around your home can really give it that homely and comforting touch that makes it feel like your own space. Not only that, but it can make the walls look and feel much less empty!
By using VELCROⓇ tape to instead hang decor on your walls, then this offers you the ideal temporary and adaptable solution.
Securing Fragile Items
If you own any breakable items, such as vases or fragile decor, then whilst they may be your own property, they could leave marks or scratches on walls or wooden flooring if knocked over and broken.
In order to keep these in place, protecting both your items and your deposit, you can place a small strip or dot of stick-on VELCROⓇ on the bottom of any breakable item and another on the surface it’s rested on.
Hanging Curtains
If your rental property comes with blinds in the bedroom, this may not be enough to keep out the darkness fully. For some people, this isn’t an issue, however if you’re someone who does need blackout curtains to sleep, then you’ll likely want to put some of these up.
This would, however, require you to screw a curtain pole into the wall and risk losing out on some of your deposit. That is, unless, you use some self-adhesive VELCROⓇ tape to hang them up, instead!
How to Remove Self-Adhesive VELCROⓇ Without Leaving Residue
As you can see, there are many uses for stick-on VELCROⓇ in the home that are ideal for renters. But, how do you go about removing this from a wall or surface without either causing damage or leaving a residue?
Our first tip is to use a hairdryer to slightly warm up the side of VELCROⓇ that’s attached to the wall; this will warm up the adhesive slightly, making it easier to peel off without any paint coming off with it. As for any adhesive residue that’s then left, a handy trick is to take some tooth floss and gently scrape the adhesive residue off using a back-and-forth motion.
