In this blog, we’ll take a look at some of the different types of self-adhesive VELCROⓇ tape that we sell, discussing the properties and uses of each. Read on below to learn more.
PS14 Standard Adhesive
PS14 is the standard adhesive used for adhesive VELCROⓇ tape found in your typical retail packs. This is a rubber-resign based adhesive that is considered usable for general purposes, since it can adhere to a wide range of surfaces.
The surfaces it can stick to include:
- Aluminium
- Stainless Steel
- Glass
- Cardboard
- Painted Wallboard
- Plywood
- Formica (polished side)
- Polyester
- Polyacrylic
- Polyethylene
- Polypropylene
It’s important to note, however, that it is not effective at sticking to PVC, vinyl or any other materials that contain plasticizers.
The operating temperature range for PS14 is -15°C to +90°C, making it suitable for most climates and everyday applications.
PS18 Acrylic Adhesive
Unlike PS14, PS18 adhesive is a water-based acrylic adhesive. This makes it suitable and recommended for use on PVC, Vinyl and other materials that contain plasticizers. Although, it can still also be used on many of the same materials that PS14 can be used on, such as aluminium, stainless steel, glass and more. It isn’t, however, suitable for use on polyethylene or polypropylene.
PS18 has a slightly larger operating temperature range of -20°C to +120°C. As such, it can be more suitable for applications where hot or cold temperatures may be more consistent. For example, at exhibitions where heat from lighting could cause adhesives to soften.
Heavy Duty Adhesive
Like PS14, VELCROⓇ heavy duty adhesive use a rubber-resin base. The difference is that these adhesives (PS51 and PS52) are incredibly strong in comparison. Being rubber-resin based, this heavy-duty adhesive also isn’t suitable for use on materials containing plasticizers, but can be used on most other materials.
Thanks to its strength, heavy duty adhesive tape is ideal for use on uneven or rough surfaces where better stick is required to maintain a secure adhesion. It’s also practical and effective when a very secure, semi-permanent fixing is required.
