What Materials Can You Use Self-Adhesive VELCROⓇ Tape On?
If there’s one type of fastening that’s underrated, it’s hook and loop. Hook and loop fastenings, especially VELCROⓇ Brand, can be used in a wide range of scenarios, offering convenience, practicality and ease of use.
We especially love VELCROⓇ Brand self-adhesive tape, which simply sticks to your required surfaces ready for the hook and loop to be used at your convenience. With that said, however, it’s important that you stick this to compatible materials, as certain materials simply won’t offer an ideal surface to stick to.
Keep reading as we explore the best materials to stick self-adhesive VELCROⓇ Brand tape onto and the materials to avoid.
Compatible Materials
Self-adhesive VELCROⓇ Brand tape uses a rubber resin based adhesive, known as PS14 adhesive. Rubber-based adhesives such as this are most commonly used in applications where the adhesive in question can be peeled off if required, leaving the surface it’s been stuck onto damage and residue free. However, it can also be used on a more permanent basis, offering strong adhesion to a range of surfaces.
This specific adhesive in question works especially well with smooth surfaces that still offer some surface texture.
Such materials include:
- Aluminium
- Stainless steel
- Glass
- Cardboard
- Painted Wallboard
- Plywood
- Formica (polished side)
- Polyester
- Polyacrylic
- Polyethylene
- Polypropylene
Non-Compatible Materials
As for non-compatible materials, rubber resin based adhesives don’t stick as well to materials that lack surface texture, as the adhesive is unable to properly form a mechanical bond. This means there are certain plastics in particular that self-adhesive VELCROⓇ Brand tape doesn’t work well with.
Namely, this includes:
- PVC
- Vinyl
- Any material that contains plasticizers
Alternative Options
Whilst standard adhesive VELCROⓇ Brand tape doesn’t stick to the aforementioned materials, VELCROⓇ has recognised this, which is why they offer an alternative solution.
This solution being their Acrylic Adhesive tape. Rather than using a rubber resin based adhesive, this version of their self-adhesive tape uses a high tack water based acrylic adhesive. This type of adhesive is much better suited for use on non-porous substrates, making them suitable to use on PVC, Vinyl and other substrates containing plasticizers.
Why Use Self-Adhesive VELCROⓇ?
So, now that you know which adhesive VELCROⓇ Brand tape to use for which materials, what makes this such a good fastening to use in the first place?
Well, for one, it’s incredibly easy to use. All you need to do is simply peel off the adhesive backing, stick the hook and loop tape to your desired surface, wait for the adhesive to form a strong bond and it’s ready to use!
Once the adhesive has bonded to your desired surfaces, it’s then incredibly strong, allowing you to use the hook and loop tape for all kinds of practical purposes.
